Greene Wins Mid-Amateur Title by Shooting a 67
Buz Greene, 41, from North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, shot a 5-under-par 67 Tuesday on his way to victory in the Southern California Golf Assn.’s Mid-Amateur championship at Santa Ana Country Club.
Greene started the day 6 strokes behind John Pate of La Cumbre CC, but gained 8 strokes on one hole--the 11th. Pate put 3 shots into the water on the 147-yard par 3 and wound up with a 10. Greene birdied the hole.
The winner was never seriously threatened after the big swing, his 140 total 4 better than Jerry Michals of San Luis Rey Downs and former SCGA Amateur champion Jon (Bud) Ardell of Bakersfield CC.
