Local News in Brief : Council Meeting in San Pedro Urged

Share

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores proposed Friday that one council meeting next month be held in San Pedro so residents there can take a closer look at the proceedings.

Residents of San Pedro, the southernmost community in Los Angeles, have frequently complained that they feel isolated from city government. Flores, who represents the Harbor region, said that holding the Nov. 16 meeting at the Harbor Commission Auditorium would also give council members “a better understanding of the unique interests and needs of other council districts.”

The city’s Charter allows the council to hold meetings outside City Hall, and the council has previously met at Canoga Park High School. The motion by Flores will be considered by the full council next week.
