Bill Cayton, manager of Mike Tyson, accused promoter Don King of tampering with Cayton’s managerial contract with the heavyweight champion and requested a hearing before the New York State Athletic Commission.
Cayton said Tyson has told him that he signed an exclusive 4-year promotional deal with King. Such a contract between King and Tyson would be illegal under New York rules, because it was made without the consent of the fighter’s manager of record. The deal also threatens Tyson’s scheduled Jan. 14 title defense against Frank Bruno.
Cayton said Tyson also gave King the power of attorney over his money.
