Rocker John Fogerty was in federal court Tuesday, testifying in his own defense against claims by Fantasy Records that he copied one of his own songs issued by the label and put the new version on “Centerfield,” a 1984 comeback album for Warner Bros. Formerly the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty was sued in 1985 by Fantasy for infringing its copyright on “Run Through the Jungle”--a song Fantasy contends is identical to “Old Man Down the Road,” which appears on “Centerfield.” Fogerty admitted in court Tuesday that he was aware of comments that the two songs were similar, but differentiated the two tunes for the court, occasionally sounding out the notes and fingering in the air.
