Local News in Brief : Order on Sex-Film Booths Extended

A judge ordered a Reseda adult bookstore Tuesday to eliminate privacy in booths where sex films are shown.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Richard A. Adler granted an injunction extending a restraining order that was issued Oct. 4 against Joe’s II Adult Bookstore.
The Los Angeles city attorney’s office pursued the court action after police made more than 50 sex-related arrests at the store in the past 10 months. Most of the arrests were of men caught masturbating in the booths, police said.
The injunction applies to the booths, which are required to be patrolled by a uniformed security guard. The order also requires more lighting in the area and either closed-circuit television cameras or the removal of partitions between the booths.
Co-owner Irwin N. Mark, 44, of Studio City, closed the film booths Oct. 4 but kept the rest of the store open.
Mark was unavailable for comment Tuesday but said earlier this month that the city’s action against the store is unfair and might force him to close the business rather than fight a costly legal battle.
