Local News in Brief : Cal State Tuition May Rise

Share

California residents who attend Cal State Dominguez Hills full time will have to pay $24 more a year in tuition next year if a proposed budget is approved. The increase also would apply to students at Cal State Long Beach and other schools in the 19-campus state university system.

Under the budget proposal, full-time tuition would increase 3.6%, to $708 from $684, for California residents. Tuition for out-of-state full-time students would rise from $4,680 to $4,950.

Cal State officials estimate that the state subsidizes the education of each full-time student by $6,400.

Final decisions on the system’s $1.6-billion budget for 1989-90, which must be approved by the state Finance Department and the governor, are expected in January.
