‘Kahane Effect’ in Israel

In Jerome Segal’s column (Op-Ed Page, Oct. 24) “Try Saying ‘Yes’ to the PLO”--if that organization would kindly change its acronym to PO, one might feel more friendly towards it. I am not entirely facetious. Blindly read, PLO appears innocuous when compared to the full weight and meaning of the name: Palestine Liberation Organization.
There is a certain problem with any group that proposes future peace whose very name suggests the opposite. Also, in peace, that “L” would become as meaningless as, say, the “U” in U.S.A. if we had remained a confederacy.
