1,134 Cases of Bottled Beer Spill as Truck Tips, Injures 3

Three people were slightly injured, and more than 1,100 cases of bottled malt liquor were spilled across two lanes of the Golden State Freeway when a truck turned on its side early Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 5 a.m. accident near Hasley Canyon Road in Val Verde forced the closing of the two southbound lanes for 5 hours while debris from the accident was cleaned up, Officer Tom Tilman said.

Tilman said the truck, driven by Jerry Jacobson, 36, of Oregon, swerved into the freeway’s center divider for an unknown reason. When Jacobson tried to drive it back onto the road, Tilman said, its load of 1,134 cases shifted, and the vehicle overturned.

Tilman said Jacobson and two passengers, William Perrier, 36, and a 16-year-old boy who was not identified, both of Oregon, suffered slight injuries, and were treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia and released.
