ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS: You won’t be...

ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS: You won’t be hearing the B-side of Prince’s new single on the radio this year--at least you won’t be hearing any deejays announcing the song title. The single’s A-side is an extended version of “I Wish You Heaven” (so extended that even Prince couldn’t listen to it all the way through--he’s listed the timing as “10:Something”). The B-side, which is credited to one of his favorite aliases (Camille), is titled “Scarlet. . .” The title’s second word probably won’t make many family newspapers. Just imagine it’s about a favorite feline. . . . Kudos to Warner Communications for bankrolling a series of 30-second Musicians For Life TV spots that will begin running around Thanksgiving. Sponsored by the National AIDS Network, the public-service ads are geared toward raising AIDS awareness, especially among minority teens. The first batch of spots feature Madonna, Los Lobos, Julie Brown, Ice-T and Al B. Sure. . . . Run-D.M.C.’s much-hyped “Tougher Than Leather,” the self-styled Rap Meets Rambo movie, finally hits the West Coast this Friday. Shot more than a year ago, the film was finally picked up for distribution by New Line Cinema, which released it on the East Coast this summer, where it was buffeted by incidents of gang violence, mediocre box-office and abysmal notices. One review we predict you won’t see in the ads came from Washington Post critic Richard Harrington. Describing the plot as something that “must’ve been scripted on a napkin over lunch at a fast-food restaurant,” he attacked the film’s “ugly race and gender-baiting,” dubbing it “vile, vicious, despicable, stupid, sexist, racist and horrendously made.” . . . And local faves Chain Reaction are back on the front-burner this month. A&R; execs from PolyGram, WTG and Virgin Records have been ogling the band, who’ll be back (with more label execs on hand) at Madame Wong’s West this Friday night.
