Orel Hershiser, making his first appearance since he pitched the Dodgers to a 5-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Game 5 of the World Series, started for a team of major league all-stars against a Japanese all-star team at Tokyo in the first game of a seven-game tour of Japan.
Hershiser pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run.
Kazuhiko Ishimine singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning off San Diego reliever Mark Davis, giving the Japanese a 2-1 victory. It was the only hit off Davis, who entered the game in the eighth inning, after Toronto’s Jimmy Key gave up 3 hits in 3 innings.
