Local News in Brief : OSHA Cites Firm for Safety Violations
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Monday that it had cited Shank-Ohbayashi, a joint U.S.-Japanese tunneling company, for violating constructon safety rules on work on the Los Angeles Metro Rail subway project, and it proposed penalties of $35,800 against the company.
The citations allege three willful violations involving the use of electric circuit breakers on equipment, use of mobile diesel equipment not certified for use in gassy locations and transporting of employees in an unsafe way.
Additionally, OSHA cited eight serious violations for improper securing of pneumatic power tools, unsecured compressed gas cylinders and improper electric wiring.
Shank-Ohbayashi has 15 working days to accept the OSHA findings and pay the penalties or to file an appeal with the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission in Washington.
