4-Pound Bass Catch Lifts Hopes at Henshaw
A single fish--a 4-pound largemouth bass caught by lake resident Rich Stevens--raised the hopes of struggling Lake Henshaw Tuesday.
“He was surprised,” said Ruth Pickard, bookkeeper for the San Diego County resort. “We all were. We haven’t seen any bass of any size for quite a while. We’ve been waiting for ‘em.”
Until Tuesday, the lake 35 miles north of Escondido had been suffering with low water and a few catfish--”a very few,” Pickard said.
“But the lake is coming up a little bit every day, from the wells, and now maybe the bass are starting (to bite).”
