Bishop McFarland and Sister Sarah
Re: Article on Bishop Norman McFarland (Oct. 30): Norman McFarland is a dinosaur! He is certainly not a man of the 20th Century. His discrimination against young girls, by not allowing them to share in religious services, is clearly a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Doesn’t he realize that in America women are equal? Perhaps he should get his orders from the Suffragan Bishop of Boston, Barbara Harris, who is the first woman Bishop in the history of the Episcopal Church. “The best man for the job is a woman.”
Orange County deserves better. How can anybody oppose birth control and sex education in 1988? No wonder America has the worst teen-age pregnancy problem among the industrialized nations. This man is an antique living in the Dark Ages. Orange County needs someone in the 20th Century.
