A Downey man was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of robbing a branch of California Federal savings and loan here earlier in the day, police said.

Sgt. Larry Griswold identified the suspect as Daniel Maynard Mauk, 28. He said Mauk entered the branch office at 17900 Magnolia Ave. at 2:35 p.m. Monday with a mask over his head and a sawed-off shotgun at his side.

The robber ordered employees and customers to the floor while he jumped over the counter and removed cash from the cashiers’ drawers, Griswold said. The suspect then ran out of the bank but was arrested by two Fountain Valley police officers minutes later.
