Local News in Brief : Incinerator Approval Will Be Appealed

Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn said Thursday that his office will appeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to allow construction of a $29-million toxic waste incinerator in Vernon.

The EPA on Wednesday approved construction of the plant near the boundary of the city of Los Angeles.

“We don’t want to see this new source of dangerous pollution go into operation until serious questions about environmental impact and health risks get serious answers and we’re assured it will be safe,” Hahn said.
