Tyson-Bruno Fight Called Off
Mike Tyson’s career, caught in a tug of war between his manager and promoter Don King, remained on hold today when his heavyweight title defense against Frank Bruno was called off.
The fight, scheduled for Las Vegas on Jan. 14, fell victim to a contract dispute between Tyson and manager Bill Cayton. “It will be a long time before Mike Tyson fights again,” said Seth Abraham of HBO Sports, which was scheduled to televise the Bruno fight from the Las Vegas Hilton. “There’s a spider web of litigation out there.” Cayton said the hotel “pulled the plug” on the fight because of the dispute over King’s promotional contract with Tyson.
