Local News in Brief : Council Urged to Call Election

Share

Claiming that three members of the Lawndale City Council violated the state’s open meeting law by privately deciding before Thursday’s council meeting that they would fire City Manager Daniel P. Joseph, Mayor Sarann Kruse has urged all members of the council to set an election within 60 days.

She said that this would give residents an opportunity to elect “a team of representatives that will stop embarrassing them and get on with the business of running this city.”

Councilman Larry Rudolph, who in April ran against Kruse for mayor halfway through his four-year council term, denied that he, Councilman Harold E. Hofmann and Councilman Dan McKenzie made any decisions privately. Hofmann and McKenzie have made similar assertions in the past.

Rudolph said he has no intention of setting another election. “I’ve been elected for four years and I’m going to stay up there four years,” he said in an interview Wednesday.
