A swarm of killer bees apparently roused by a worker cutting tree branches attacked seven people on the outskirts of the capital, a newspaper reported.

A health center treated the victims of the Friday attack for nausea, dizziness, swelling and pain, but none became seriously ill, the newspaper Barricada said Saturday.

Barricada, the newspaper of the ruling Sandinista party, did not say how it was known that the bees were of the “killer” variety descended from South African bees that escaped from a Brazilian researcher in 1956.
