Local News in Brief : Sun Valley Electrical Short Causes Outage
- Share via
An electrical short in a high voltage line in Sun Valley left 37,000 customers without power for about 4 minutes Monday, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported.
The power outage occurred at 1:30 a.m. when a power line at a DWP station at Lankershim Boulevard and Tuxford Street malfunctioned for unknown reasons, DWP spokeswoman Dorothy Jensen said. The malfunction reportedly sent electricity from the line into the ground at the station, briefly lighting the sky.
Jensen said some customers in Sun Valley, Sunland and Tujunga were left without power until electricity was routed around the damaged line about 4 minutes later. There were no injuries.
