WACO, Tex. — The San Diego State basketball team will play its first road game of the season when it plays Baylor tonight at 5:30 in the first collegiate game in the Bears’ new 10,084-capacity Ferrell Center.
The Aztecs are coming off a 74-61 victory over Delaware in their season opener Saturday night. Senior center Mitch McMullen led the Aztecs with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Baylor opened its season last weekend by losing twice in the Central Fidelity tournament in Richmond, Va. The Bears lost to Richmond, 56-38, in the first round and to Arizona State, 89-73, in the consolation game. Baylor shot 39.8% for the tournament.
The Bears return only one starter--Michael Hobbs, a junior off-guard--from a team that finished 23-11 and lost to Memphis State in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament.
Both teams played the same preseason opponent, a touring professional team from Adelaide, Australia. Baylor won, 75-57, 4 days before the Aztecs lost to the same team, 75-66.
