Local News in Brief : Agoura Hills Plan to Annex Land Advances

Share

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has given its approval to the first annexation in the 6-year history of the city of Agoura Hills.

The 120-acre annexation parcel in the Liberty Canyon area extends south to Malibu Creek State Park. It must still be approved by the Local Agency Formation Commission. But in a key step Tuesday, the supervisors voted to allow Agoura Hills its share of property taxes from the area.

The area contains nearly 70 homes, and 19 more are expected to be built, City Manager David N. Carmany said. The city initiated efforts to annex the area at the request of its residents, he said.

A petition filed by the residents earlier this year said they wanted a voice in future development of the area.

The city’s general plan identifies the area, which is next to one of the city’s established neighborhoods, as a “logical expansion.”

“Most people there indicate that this is in fact Agoura Hills,” Carmany said.

LAFCO is expected to schedule a public hearing on the annexation in January.

The action is separate from a second possible annexation being discussed by the city and a developer, Potomac Investment Associates. Potomac plans to develop much of its 474 unincorporated acres east of the city and has expressed interest in annexation by the city.
