Santa Monica : School Board President

The Santa Monica-Malibu School Board unanimously selected Bob Holbrook as school board president at its meeting Monday. Holbrook, who has served on the board since 1983, replaces Peggy Lyons, whose 1-year term expired.

The presidency is a largely ceremonial position, rotated each year among seven board members.

The board also named Patricia Hoffman vice president.

In other business, the board unanimously approved a measure setting a 6-month term on leases to religious organizations and other outside groups seeking to rent schools for weekend services. Religious organizations, some of which have been using the schools for years, have the option to apply for renewal when their 6-month leases expire.
