Local News in Brief : Car Hits Transformer, Causes Power Outage
About 200 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in Woodland Hills were left without electrical power for about an hour when a car accident knocked out a transformer, authorities said Monday.
DWP spokesman Ed Freudenburg said electrical power ceased at 8:31 p.m. Sunday in area from the Ventura Freeway north to Oxnard Street between Winnetka and De Soto avenues. The outage was caused when a car struck a transformer at Oso Avenue and Coulson Street, he said.
Initially, about 800 homes and businesses lost electricity, but power was restored to all but 200 in a few minutes, Freudenburg said. Full power was restored to the area by 9:43 p.m. Sunday.
