A 7-year-old boy was fatally hurt Monday afternoon when a car driven by his father swerved across East La Palma Avenue and was struck by an oncoming van, Anaheim police said.

The crash occurred about 4:15 p.m. when an eastbound 1983 BMW driven by Michael Roland Millian, 31, of Anaheim crossed into opposing traffic and was struck broadside by a 1987 Ford van driven by Adrian L. Sabater, Police Lt. Peter De Paola said.

Michael Brandon Millian, 7, was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim, where he died of head injuries, police said.

The boy’s brother, Gilbert Millian, 2, and his father were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Michael Millian was reported in serious condition.

Police said that they have not determined what caused Millian to swerve into the oncoming traffic but that early investigation indicated that he may have been intoxicated.
