Local News in Brief : Romanian Sailor Requests Asylum
A Romanian sailor jumped ship in Alabama and flew to Los Angeles, where he turned himself in at an airport police substation and requested political asylum, authorities said Monday.
Ion Brezoi, 25, arrived at Los Angeles International Airport at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and told police he wanted to defect to the United States, Sgt. Bill Morgan said.
Brezoi left the police substation with relatives.
