A robbery that netted more than $500,000 in jewels from the Neiman-Marcus store at the Fashion Island shopping mall was captured on videotape, said Newport Beach police and store officials. Officers said surveillance tapes showed the gunman during the holdup and leaving the parking lot in a gold late-model Mazda. The bandit walked into the store’s jewelry department late Sunday afternoon, waited for other customers to leave, then showed a clerk a pistol in his waistband. He escaped with bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings. On Nov. 22, four men took an estimated $1 million in jewelry from a Slavick’s store in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza. Police said there appeared to be no link.
