The Region : School Award Nominations
Five San Gabriel Valley schools have been nominated for California Distinguished Elementary Schools Awards, a state Department of Education spokesman said Tuesday.
Armstrong Elementary School in Diamond Bar, DeAnzaElementary School in Baldwin Park, La Fetra Elementary School in Glendora, Orangewood Elementary School in West Covina and Royal Oaks Elementary School in Duarte are among the 250 nominees from 4,575 elementary schools in the state.
State school officials selected the nominees on the basis of a variety of indicators including California Assessment Program test scores and the amount of instructional time.
Competing schools must submit an application with information about curriculum, teaching methods, staff training and school activities.
Winners will be announced in April and will become nominees for the U. S. Department of Education’s National Elementary School Recognition Program awards.
