A Buena Park woman was in critical condition Thursday after her car collided with an ambulance in the intersection of La Palma and Magnolia avenues in Anaheim, authorities said.

Anaheim Police Sgt. David Severson said Linda Jean McCoy, 34, apparently did not hear the siren or see the flashing lights of a Care ambulance that had entered the intersection against the traffic signal at 3:21 p.m.

He said the ambulance driver, who was not injured in the crash, paused before crossing the intersection. It was not known if the ambulance was carrying a patient.

Severson said the ambulance was traveling at about 3 to 5 miles per hour when McCoy struck the vehicle on the right front side.

He said McCoy, who was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit, was pinned inside her car and had to be cut from the vehicle. Paramedics treated her at the scene and she was transferred by helicopter to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
