The Dallas Mavericks activated forward Roy Tarpley from the injured list and waived second-year guard Steve Alford.
Tarpley, a 7-foot forward, missed 14 games with a left knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage.
Rick Sund, the Mavericks’ vice president of basketball operations, described Alford as a luxury-type guard. “He can spark you at times,” Sund said. “But we needed to protect our front-line players.”
Alford, a 2-time All-American at Indiana, was a second-round draft choice in 1987.
