A 33-year-old Downey man is being held in Los Angeles County Jail on $100,000 bail after repeatedly stabbing his mother with a butcher knife, Downey police said.
David Allen Cuny was arrested Sunday morning and charged with attempted murder after chasing his 51-year-old mother, Margaret Ackerman, from their second-story apartment at 11811 Old River School Road. Police said Ackerman suffered from multiple stab wounds and was listed in stable condition Wednesday at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital.
Police said witnesses saw Cuny chase Ackerman from the apartment where the two live and stab her in the chest. Cuny stopped stabbing his mother and gave himself up after he was approached by other residents of the building.
Police said they do not know what triggered the attack. Although Cuny admitted stabbing his mother to police, he could not recall all of the specifics.
