Sensational Star Scores 7-Length Victory
Sensational Star raced into the lead from the outside post, held off Mount Laguna’s bid early in the stretch and drew off in the final furlong to score a wire-to-wire 7-length victory over Winnerwald in Friday’s feature race at Hollywood Park.
Trained by Bill Spawr, the 4-year-old gelding ran a mile on the sloppy track in 1:35 3/5 and gave Eddie Delahoussaye his third winning ride in a row.
Sensational Star, getting his second straight victory, returned $8.60, $4 and $2.40. Winnerwald paid $4 and $2.40. Gold And, the Argentine-bred favorite making his second start in the United States and his first on a muddy surface, paid $2.20 to show.
