The State : 10 Tons of Pot Found on Boat
Ten tons of high-quality marijuana worth an estimated street value of $20 million was seized from an abandoned ketch in Shelter Cove south of Eureka by the U.S. Coast Guard. Officials said the crew apparently had fled before a Coast Guard cutter arrived to search the ketch, which had the fake registration Eros. Cmdr. Mike Stevens said investigators found documents on the ketch that linked it to a known smuggling boat registered in the Cayman Islands. Stevens said there have been signs of increasing drug smuggling along the Northern California coast because of stepped-up patrols in Southern California and the Caribbean.
