Local News in Brief : Countywide : 7 County Schools Named to National Honor Roll

Seven county schools are among 47 in California nominated by state Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig to compete in the 1988-89 National Secondary School Recognition Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.

The county nominees are Los Alamitos High, Los Alamitos Unified School District; Irvine High, Irvine Unified School District; Mission Viejo High, Saddleback Valley Unified School District; McFadden Intermediate School, Santa Ana Unified School District; Ocean View High, Huntington Beach Union High School District, and Troy High and Fullerton High, Fullerton Joint Union High School District.

Honig said the nominated schools show outstanding “school leadership, teaching environment, learning environment, institutional vitality and parent and community support.”

Department of Education officials review the state nominations, then several schools are picked for on-site visits by national education leaders.

The winning schools will be named in May and will receive plaques, special flags and recognition at ceremonies usually held in the White House.
