Local News in Brief : Howard Appointed to Conservancy Board
Burbank City Councilwoman Mary Lou Howard has been appointed to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy board of directors.
Howard, 51, who is also a member of the California Coastal Commission, will take her seat on the nine-member conservancy board next month.
The conservancy acquires and preserves public parkland in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Verdugo Mountains and the Rim of the Valley Corridor.
Howard was instrumental last year in obtaining state funds to purchase property in the hills above Burbank that the city wanted to preserve as open space.
