Erk Russell, Georgia Southern coach, will be offered the coaching job at Georgia, where he served as Vince Dooley’s defensive assistant for 17 years, the Athens Daily News reported.
Russell said Monday night he has not been interviewed for the post.
“I could not comment on that because I haven’t been offered anything,” said Russell, reached at his hotel room in Montgomery, Ala. where he is preparing to coach in the Blue-Gray game.
The University of Georgia has interviewed two of Dooley’s top assistants as well, George Haffner and Dale Strahm.
In addition, The Atlanta Constitution reported Monday that Valdosta State Coach Mike Cavan, a former Georgia player and assistant coach, would also be interviewed.
