Share

A new Los Angeles police task force established to crack down on writers of bad checks during the holiday season arrested 31 people in its first six nights of operation.

The task force, assigned to the metropolitan area, involves six two-officer teams and several postal inspectors, Lt. O. B. Davis said. The postal inspectors are assisting the officers because many bad checks are written at post offices this time of year, he said.

A similar operation last year resulted in 24 arrests in the first six nights.

More than 9,000 bad checks made out for a total of $6 million were passed in the metropolitan area in 1987, police said.
