Greg Bell made all seven of Tennessee’s baskets in the second half, including a 3-point shot with 17 seconds left that rallied the 19th-ranked Volunteers past San Diego State, 77-75, for the championship of the San Diego Holiday tournament.

Bell helped Tennessee overcome a 75-72 deficit in the final 1:35. He scored 22 of his 25 points in the second half on 6 3-pointers, a 2-point shot and a pair of free throws.

San Diego State had control of the ball with less than a minute to play when Bell intercepted a poor pass by Michael Best and went downcourt for a layup that pulled the Volunteers to 75-74. Bell was fouled on the play, but he missed the free throw.

Tennessee then fouled Bryan Williams with 25 seconds left. Williams missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Doug Roth got the rebound to set up Bell’s game-winner from 23 feet.

Best’s last-second shot was partially blocked by Dyron Nix.

Nix, who had 17 points in the first 11 minutes, finished with 24 points. Tennessee improved to 6-1. Mitch McMullen scored 22 for the Aztecs (4-3).
