‘Bomb’ Seen as Device to Avoid College Exams

STORRS, Conn. —
What appeared to be a bomb found Thursday in a classroom building at the University of Connecticut turned out to be a realistic fake, authorities said. University officials speculated that a student hoping to avoid an exam planted the 4-inch by 4-inch block wrapped in duct tape with wires leading to a 6-volt battery.
