Some Wrong Notes

Don Heckman’s review of “An Evening of New Music” at the Wiltern (Dec. 5) could have been easily dismissed as just another critic opining to the wind, if he hadn’t seriously screwed up the facts. On behalf of the evening’s sponsor, we’d like to set him straight because he was just plain wrong on two assertions in his review.

First, the concert was never, ever billed as a “New Age music concert.” The only person to ever use that terminology, to our knowledge, was Heckman himself when he began his review thus: “Friday night’s so-called New Age music concert . . . “ New music, yes; New Age, no. Patrons of both know the difference.

Second, and most astonishing, he wrote a full paragraph excorciating our client, a car stereo company and the show’s sponsor, for being responsible for the music being “blasted into the auditorium.” Yo, Don, we didn’t have anything to do with the production or the sound. We just paid for the gig. Had he asked, he would have known.
