The state announced temporary increases in the prices dairy farmers receive for milk, which officials said probably will mean slight increases in what California consumers pay for milk and cottage cheese. The retail prices of other dairy products probably will not increase because they compete in the national market, the state Department of Food and Agriculture said. The price hike comes as a result of the drought, which caused unusually large and rapid increases in dairy farmers’ production costs, officials said.
