A young woman attempting to cross a freeway near the Mexican border was hit by a car and killed Saturday night, the second such incident in two days.

The victim was struck shortly before 10:30 p.m. while she was running across westbound Interstate 905 (formerly California 117) just east of the Picador Boulevard exit, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

The woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified by the coroner’s office as Piedad Araceli Morales, 20. A companion of Araceli’s witnessed the accident from the center divider of the freeway, where he was standing and holding the victim’s baby, the CHP spokesman said.

Authorities declined to identify the companion and had no other information on Araceli.

Earlier Saturday, the body of another woman who apparently had been hit by a car was found along westbound I-905 by U.S. Border Patrol agents. The body of the unidentified Latina woman was discovered about 9:30 a.m. on an embankment near Otay Mesa Road, police said.
