Local News in Brief : Not Guilty Plea in Embezzlement Case

A former U.S. Customs supervisor pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that she embezzled nearly $840,000 in duties from passengers at Los Angeles International Airport.

Betty J. Jones, 38, appeared before a federal magistrate and pleaded not guilty to 21 counts of embezzling money belonging to the United States. Trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 14 before U.S. District Judge Robert Kelleher.
