Local News in Brief : Countywide: : 5 Organizations Given Gifts from Times Mirror
Five Orange County organizations have been awarded gifts totaling more than $100,000 by Times Mirror, parent corporation of the Orange County Edition of The Times, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The Volunteer Center of Orange County, Garden Grove’s Grove Theatre Company and the Discovery Museum in Santa Ana will receive special $10,000 grants from the Times Mirror Foundation, corporate spokeswoman Cindy Beyl said. The three are among 25 Southern California organizations to receive grants of $10,000 each to commemorate 25 years of grant-giving by the corporation.
Beyl said Times Mirror also has awarded $80,000 to the Orange County United Way, a $5,000 increase from last year’s gift of $75,000.
The corporation also awarded $5,000 to television station KOCE to support its broadcast services.
Los Angeles Times Publisher Tom Johnson said the gifts reflect The Times’ growing commitment to Orange County and its continuing involvement in community affairs.
