Sacramento Coach Reynolds Collapses Late in NBA Game
SACRAMENTO — Jerry Reynolds, Sacramento Kings’ coach, lay motionless for 6 minutes while paramedics tended to him near the Kings’ bench Tuesday night.
Reynolds was arguing a call with referee Blaine Reichelt when he collapsed and fell face first. Reynolds was conscious when he was taken from Arco Arena and rushed by ambulance to Sutter Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokesman said Reynolds was in stable condition.
King spokeswoman Julie Fie said team doctors “didn’t think there was anything seriously wrong. They wanted to put him under observation.”
Fie added, “doctors do not think it is anything serious, but any middle-aged man under this kind of stress, you worry about health problems.”
Reynolds will be 45 in late January.
“Jerry, when he regained consciousness, which was about 30 seconds, reported that he suddenly felt dizzy when he jumped in the air and landed on the ground,” team physician James Castle said. “He had no chest pain. By the time we were able to take the blood pressure and pulse, everything was normal.”
Castles said Reynolds should be out of the hospital within 48 hours. He will not be able to travel with the Kings to Utah for a game Wednesday.
There were 5:56 left in the Kings’ 112-111 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers when Reynolds collapsed.
