Long Beach : Free New Year’s Bus Rides

Share

Long Beach Transit plans to offer free bus rides on New Year’s Eve in hopes that revelers will hop aboard buses instead of trying to drive. And when dawn breaks on New Year’s Day, the public bus company will offer grandstand tickets and transportation to the Rose Parade.

All bus rides will be free from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday as a weapon in the war against drinking and driving.

“The loss of fare revenue for one evening is small compared to the costs of not providing party-goers with an alternative means of getting home safety,” agency Vice Chairman Arthur M. Levine said in a statement.

“With mounting public concern over the dangers of driving under the influence, and increased law enforcement vigilance this year, we want to make more local residents aware of this community service.”

On the Morning After, Long Beach Transit plans to operate buses to the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl football game. Buses will depart for the parade at 6:30 a.m. Monday from the Veterans Stadium parking lot near Clark Avenue and Conant Street. Round-trip transportation to the parade is $20. Transportation and a grandstand seat for the parade are $45.

Buses will leave for the Rose Bowl at 11 a.m. from the same location. Round-trip transportation to the game only is $23, according to the agency.
