A 33-year-old Pacoima man was charged Wednesday with manslaughter and drunk driving after a Christmas night accident that killed an unidentified man.

Isaac Johnson was charged by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office with one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of felony drunk driving.

Los Angeles police were still trying Wednesday to identify the victim, a Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s who suffered massive head injuries.

Johnson, a painter with a construction company, was not seriously injured.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth A. Loveman said Johnson was driving east on Bernadette Street in Pacoima shortly after 7 p.m. when he struck the victim’s car, which was traveling south on De Haven Avenue.

According to Loveman, “Johnson was driving a car which he knew had serious brake problems, on a wet, slippery street and his brakes completely went out. He lost control of the car.”

After the crash, tests showed Johnson had a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.2%--double the state legal standard for drunkenness, Loveman said.

Johnson was being held in County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
