A 38-year-old North Hollywood man pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter in the Dec. 15 shooting death of his brother at the brother’s Van Nuys apartment after an argument.

Crispin Ahumada Hernandez entered his plea before Van Nuys Municipal Judge Robert H. Wallerstein before his preliminary hearing was scheduled to begin, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Pargament said.

Hernandez was originally charged with murder in the death of Pedro Ahumada, who was shot four times with a .38-caliber revolver. Los Angeles police found Ahumada lying in a pool of blood and arrested Hernandez at the scene, Pargament said.

He was allowed to plead guilty to the lesser charge, Pargament said, because both brothers had been drinking heavily, and the killing occurred during an argument.

Hernandez faces a maximum sentence of 13 years in prison, Pargament said. Wallerstein set sentencing for Jan. 19.
