Local News in Brief : La Canada to Keep Dial-a-Ride Program
The La Canada Flintridge City Council unanimously agreed this week to continue the city’s 2-year-old Dial-a-Ride program.
Under the program, funded by the city and operated in conjunction with Glendale, the city rents two specially equipped buses that provide handicapped and elderly residents with free transportation to La Crescenta, Montrose, Glendale, Pasadena and Altadena.
Through September, the program provided an average of 423 rides per month and cost the city $109,149, said Administrative Assistant Mark Alexander, who oversees the program for La Canada Flintridge.
Alexander said ridership has increased 186% since service began in 1986, making the program more cost-efficient. According to Alexander, each ride costs the city an average of $25, down from $66 during the program’s first year.
