Long Beach : Automation in Budget Process Earns Award
A trade magazine has awarded the city of Long Beach first place in a contest for setting an example in office automation, Mayor Ernie Kell announced.
American City & County, a national monthly magazine that covers issues and trends in local government, gave its Award of Merit to the city for increasing efficiency and saving overtime in the preparation of the city budget.
Instead of hand-writing or typing a narrative description of their budget goals, city department heads use electronic mail to submit their budget requests. The system eliminates the need to retype the narratives, according to the mayor’s office.
