From Times wire services

A chlorine cloud the size of two football fields hovered over Simi Valley today, triggering widespread evacuations and forcing freeway and road closures.

“It’s 100 feet by 200 yards. We are doing further evacuations. It’s headed west. There is hardly any wind, so it’s moving real slow,” said Ventura County Fire Department Dispatcher Annie Ironside. There were no early reports of injury, but a light rain was falling in the area and emergency crews were concerned about the rain and chlorine mixture. Police said a report was received at 7:40 a.m. of a hazardous chemical spill, coming from the area of a textile manufacturer.
